After 3 weekends of windy weather the RMFC family day finally was arranged for Sunday 29th August.
The team arrived at the field at 0830 to set up fences and the BQ thank you to everyone who helped. It was made easier by the arrival of bacon butties cooked by our own speciality (bacon) chef complete with apron.
The parking started to fill up at 10am with pilots and their families’ vehicles plus some members who were not flying on the day. 20 members signed on for flying with about 60 adults and children attending the event.
All types of planes were evident from small electric, gliders to 50 cc petrol including the maiden of a Lysander. The weather remained cool with a blustery northerly breeze but when the BQ was lit the fun started with everyone wanting a warm as well as cooking.
The training aircraft were put to good use with partners, wives and children queuing for stick time as well as some prospective new to flying members. One member whose daughter was keen to emulate her dad really enjoyed herself and did very well. When asked if she would be joining him at the club Dad answered only when she knows left from right!
Richard awarded honorary membership to Denise L for her dedication to the club, always on hand to help and supply cake for all members flying, a very special lady.
The only mishap of the day fell to one of our club training aircraft that landed perfectly on top of a hedge after engine failure and came down short due the strong wind.
The car park started to empty about 1600hrs as members left for home, one traveling back to Bedfordshire not an easy journey on a bank holiday Sunday.
August weather aside it was a great event and will be run again next year, our next event will be hot chocolate and mince pies to be held in Nov/Dec
Special thanks to Tim, Dave, Minty, Steve, Glen
